Our purpose is to create a lasting positive impact across Zululand by rewilding and protecting wildlife and habitats through a science-based approach, restoring ecosystems, and sustainably uplifting local communities. Your support helps safeguard critical habitats, restore biodiversity, and ensure that this remarkable conservation landscape remains protected for generations to come. In 2017, philanthropic German investors with a deep passion for wildlife and conservation partnered with three local community trusts as landowners to establish Babanango Game Reserve. From its inception, Babanango has been built on a distinctive conservation model that combines biodiversity protection, habitat restoration and meaningful community participation, restoring a degraded landscape while integrating conservation with sustainable socio-economic development for surrounding communities. Over the last six years, the reserve has embarked on one of the largest game translocation projects in the country, selectively sourcing more than 4,000 large mammal species and sensitively reintroducing them back to wilderness areas where once such species freely roamed. The reserve has successfully reintroduced a wide variety of endemic and threatened species, including endangered black rhino and rare antelope such as oribi and klipspringer. In June 2023, the reserve reintroduced elephants, thus completing the so called "Big Five" - lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo and elephant. Today, Babanango is more than a game reserve. It is a long-term investment in restoring nature, protecting biodiversity and creating sustainable opportunities for the communities that call Zululand home.
